Chief Operations Officer

Job Summary

The Chief Operations Officer will play a pivotal role in driving the institution’s operational excellence, financial sustainability, and growth. This leadership position oversees credit facilitation, business operations, resource mobilization, and relationship management while ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission and regulatory framework. The ideal candidate will combine strategic vision with hands-on execution to optimize portfolio performance, enhance customer relationships, and secure funding for expansion.... Resource Mobilization & Financial Sustainability Develop and execute strategies to secure funding from banks, investors, donors, and development partners. Strengthen relationships with financial institutions, government agencies, and international fund to ensure liquidity and growth capital. Lead initiatives to diversify funding sources, including debt financing, grants, and partnerships. Monitor financial health, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability. Business Operations & Portfolio Management Lead the planning, coordination, and supervision of credit services, portfolio management and digital initiatives. Oversee credit appraisal, disbursement, and risk management to maintain a healthy loan portfolio. Implement operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency across branches. Drive digital transformation in banking operations (e-banking, mobile money, fintech integrations). Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls. Relationship Management & Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain strategic partnerships with clients, regulators, and industry players. Represent the institution in key negotiations, forums, and stakeholder meetings. Enhance customer experience through efficient service delivery and complaint resolution. Leadership & Team Development Provide strategic direction to regional managers and operational teams. Foster a high-performance culture through mentorship, training, and accountability. Collaborate with the CEO and board on long-term business planning and execution. Qualifications & Experience

Education:
MA/MBA/BA in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields.
Experience:
10+ years in financial services (microfinance, banking, or development finance). 5+ years in senior leadership (Operations, Credit, or Business Development roles). Proven track record in resource mobilization, credit risk management, and operational scaling. Required Technical & Managerial Competencies Strategic Leadership– Ability to align operations with business growth objectives. Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to inspire and align cross-functional teams. Financial Expertise– Deep understanding of microfinance principles, financial inclusion strategies, digital technologies and profitability. Relationship Management– Exceptional networking and negotiation skills. Digital & Innovation-Driven– Familiarity with e-banking, fintech, and process automation. Analytical & Decision-Making– Excellent strategic planning, analytical thinking, and decision-making capabilities. Communication & Influence–Effective communication and presentation skills, with fluency in both English and Amharic preferred. High integrity, accountability, and commitment to institutional values and mission. Performance Expectations Drive operational efficiency and profitability across all business units. Achieve resource mobilization targets and expand the institution’s outreach. Maintain high-quality credit portfolio with minimal delinquency.
